Shakuhachi
Kunimi Masafumi studied Kinko-ryō shakuhachi under Kawase Junsuke III and Kawase Yōsuke at Chikuyūsha, learning Jiuta and Sōkyoku ensemble pieces, as well as Kinko-ryū and Nezasa-ha Kinpū-ryū honkyoku. He learned the honkyoku repertoire handed down by Okamoto Chikugai from Maekawa Kōgetsu, including various honkyoku from Kanda Kayū, Miyagawa Nyozan, and Takahashi Kūzan. In search of the roots of komusō music, he visits places related to the music, such as the remains of komusō temples and the graves of his ancestors, and collects old shakuhachi and hitoyogiri, and continues to research the essence of shakuhachi music, regional characteristics, and traditional lineages.
