Tomotsune Bizan

Shakuhachi
Tomotsune Bizan graduated from the Department of History, Faculty of Literature, Chiba University in 2005. He went on to graduate from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, majoring in Shakuhachi in 2009. He completed the Master's program at the Graduate School of Music, majoring in Traditional Japanese Music, at the same university in 2011. He is a part-time lecturer (educational research assistant) in the Department of Traditional Japanese Music at the same university and is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at the same university's graduate school. Tomotsune studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under the late Yamamoto Hōzan I (Living National Treasure) and Nomura Hōzan. In 2011, he passed the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Association Master's Examination with the highest score. He has won prizes at the Tozan-ryū Honkyoku Competition National Championships from 2014 to 2017. Tomotsune has performed in cultural exchange performances in Iceland, Khabarovsk, St. Petersburg, Beijing, Yangzhou, Berlin, and Copenhagen. He is a Shihan (master teacher) in the Tozan-ryū, a member of the Japan Sankyoku Association, a member of "Wagakakudan Kirameki" and "Wagakki Ensemble Mashu".
