Shakuhachi
Tani Yasunori was initially taught the shakuhachi by his father, Ueda-ryū master Tani Senzan II, from an early age. From the age of 15, he studied the Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Kobayashi Ichijō and Living National Treasure Aoki Reibo II, and from the age of 28, he studied classical (Koten) Honkyoku under Ishikawa Toshimitsu. He performs on stage and at schools, mainly in the Kansai region and has appeared on NHK's Nippon no Geino. He is the acting head instructor of the Ueda-ryū shakuhachi school, a grand master, and the head of the Senzan-kai. He won first place in the Ueda-ryū shakuhachi national arts examination in 2005 and from 2007 to 2009. He won the Excellence Award at the 14th Hase Kengyo Memorial Kumamoto National Japanese Music Competition in 2008 (first place in the shakuhachi and flute music category). He passed the Japanese Traditional Culture Promotion Foundation's Japanese Music Skills Audition, and released a CD in December of the same year. Passed the NHK Japanese Music Audition in 2012. Received the Encouragement Award at the Osaka Cultural Festival in 2013. Received the Encouragement Award at the Osaka Cultural Festival in 2019 (as a member of the Koten Honkyoku Segment).
