Shakuhachi

With a BA in Ethnomusicology from the Central Conservatory of Music, Yang is young Chinese shakuhachi performer active in the Ethnic Music New Movement. He is a strong performer of original music. Incorporating classical shakuhachi performance techniques, his compositions reflect a blend of exotic cultures and world music, and show not only colorful ethnic elements, but are also progressive and international. In 2017, Yang studied shakuhachi under Wang Jinde (Yamashiro), and in 2022, he was awarded mid-level certification by the Yamashiro Shakuhachi Association. In 2021, he won the video division of the Tanabe International Shakuhachi Competition. His main artistic activities include appearing in Tan Dun's musical work "Five Tiger Generals - God of Shakuhachi" in 2020. He was in the third season of Guangdong TV's "National Music Festival". He has also appeared in Jitterbug's "Praise for the Song", the National Wave Music competition reality show "China Chiu Yin”, co-produced by Cool Dog Music and Youku, and in the China Central Radio and Television (CCTV) music competition program "Sing My New Voice". In 2022, Yang appeared in the State Administration of Radio and Television's program "China Dream - My Dream - 2022 China Network Audio-Visual Annual Ceremony". In 2023, he appeared in "The Voice of Heaven" and "China Rap Top Match". In 2024, he will visit the United States as the shakuhachi player of the Dunhuang Early Music Orchestra, performing with the Bard Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
