Shakuhachi
Kawamata Yazan studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Kawamura Taizan, Min’yō (folk) shakuhachi under Yoneya Satoshi, and shakuhachi making under Sogawa Kinya. He also studied Shinobue and Nohkan under Mochizuki Misasuke. He achieved top marks in both the Jun-Shihan (associate instructor) and Shihan (master instructor) examinations of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Association. He completed the 45th NHK Japanese Music Skills Development Association training, passed the NHK Japanese Music Audition, and won the Excellence Award at the 13th Hase Kengyō Memorial Kumamoto National Japanese Music Competition. He was also the recipient of the Bronze Award at the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Honkyoku Competition. He is active both in Japan and abroad, performing on various concerts, CD recordings, stage play music, and lecturing at educational institutions. He also creates programs for children, making use of the Type 1 elementary school/kindergarten teaching license he obtained during university.
