Tanabe Keizan started playing the shakuhachi at the age of 16 under the guidance of her father, Tozan-ryū master Tanabe Shōzan, and also studied under Fujiwara Dōzan.
She graduated from the Faculty of Music at Tokyo University of the Arts, completed the Graduate School of Music at the same university, passed the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Association Master's Exam with the highest score, and passed the NHK Japanese Music Audition.
She has performed at many events, including the Tokyo Collection, the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings, the Tokyo Skytree Opening Reception, and the Tokyo Olympic/Paralympic Four-Party Consultation Reception.
She made her major debut in 2018 with the five-member all-female shakuhachi orchestra "Shakuhachi Classic" from Sony Music.
Keizan is a part-time lecturer in the Japanese Music Department of Toho Gakuen College of Music, and lecturer in the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Child Development Project through Culture and the Arts and Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Cultural Communication Program
